I asked the original question, John.  FYI, there do not appear to be any
BBS versions that have been compiled (and tgzed) specifically for
FreeBSD; however, there are many Unix BBSes.  And -- no value judgment
implied other than purely personal opinion -- most of them suck, too. Some
of them are available as source code, and a selection is included on
the Linux CD.  

Waffle, Citadel, Yabbs, Ebbs, and various ripped-off packages that combine
elements of one or more and are sold by packaging specialists for $200+.

Slim pickings.  Good luck.

p.s.  There's a lot of C code around for message systems and BBS-like
interfaces.  And I am not disappointed in the FBSD crew for not supplying
me with a state-of-the-art BBS, either.  ;-)
