I'll assume you're talking about software to provide a searchable index of
your web site, rather than trying to build your own Altavista web spider?

I know of several good, free choices:

	1. WWWWais with indexes built via SWISH.
	2. Excite for Web Servers (supports BSDI).
	3. Harvest (derived from GLIMPSE)

All support basic AND/OR queries, the performance is primarily limited
by the speed and size of available disk space and RAM.

In most cases, rebuilding the index is much more of a load than searches,
so it's a good idea to only rebuild the full index when absolutely required.
