If I wrote gcc, the modified gcc distributed by the : manufacturer incorporates MY work. I have the right to say that the : that the company that modifies MY gcc will ONLY be allowed to use MY : gcc as a free basis for their modification on the condition that they : supply redistributable source code. This seems eminently sensible to : me, in what more precise way does this fall apart under Estonian law? As far as I know it doesn't. And I doubt that it ever will. I somewhy think you did delete too much of the context. The talk was about German laws, software licences (or the lack of those) and whetever or not any company could sell a "value added" version of gcc, not distribute the sources (or not allow you to do so) and get away with it. I *do* think that it may be possible in some cases. And yes, all these cases are in violation of the licence. Which in most cases again means nothing if the judge thinks otherwise. : "licensing" just means that there are "conditions of use," that is, : this is considered to be a contractual transaction (which can protect : my rights in more detail than a simple "sale") Sure. :-) Sander : -Tim Watson
