I usually have no problems and have connected many times without a problem, but every once in a while (after redialing dozens of times ;) I try to break the dialing sequence, and the modem leaves the line off the hook. No matter what terminal program I use to connect to /dev/cuaa1 (e.g. ppp, kermit, or minicom), I cannot get my modem to hang up the line, or get any response (even when I do the modem reset at&f1 command). If I disconnect the phone line from the modem and re-plug it back in, the line is still open (and playing through the modem speaker) and the modem does not let go. The only solution I've found is to "shutdown -h now" and kill the juice to the modem; ("reboot" doesn't do this). Any suggestions (other than to buy a real modem :) ? Thanks, david David A.
