xcdplayer-2.2 accesses to a music CD by MSF data format only. But
/usr/sbin/cdplay uses LBA format in the command 'play', and does
MSF format in 'msfplay'. If xcdplayer-2.2 does not run by the
above method and if 'play' command of /usr/sbin/cdplay works
without any problem, it is possible that your drive does not
recieve the MSF format correctly (This occurs to my CD-ROM drive).
Test the 'msfplay' command on /usr/sbin/cdplay, especially, do

CD>msfplay 0 2 0 5 0 0
(to 5 minutes)

and

CD>msfplay 0 2 0 17 0 0
(to 17 minutes).
