I'm right now running Linux 2.0.X. Among the applications I depend on
are IDL 4.01 (from RSI) and Allegro Common Lisp 4.3. I'm thinking
about getting the ApplixWare office suite. For various reasons, I'm
considering test-driving FreeBSD. In particular, I'd like to check
out it's maintainability & configurability and it's stability under
the heavy memory demands of my numerical applications. However, if I
can't run IDL, the point is moot. Is the Linux emulation to the point
where these complicated applications will run properly? This is not
to say I've really had problems under Linux--I just want to operate
under the best environment.

Thanks,

David.
