Although I am not familiar with Netware, I am under the impression that it does not support SMB or TCP/IP. Perhaps someone with a better knowledge of Netware could clarify this. I have used SAMBA quite extensively on BSDI 2.1 allowing Win95 and WinNT machines access to my BSDI server. I am quite sure that it would also work well with OS/2, and have also heard reports that Windows for Workgoups can be patched to support TCP/IP, and therefore be compatable with SAMBA. SAMBA has proven to be very functional (Printer & File sharing with user level access) and very robust - yet to have it crash or cause any problems.
