Depends on how much money you want to spend. I think best buy
is currently a TANDBERG TDC 4222 which is also known as Panther 5000.

The internal device without extra case costs about $600 ...
You have backward compatibility down to QIC-24 (read) and QIC-150
(read/write).

The drive is fast when you use the large 2.5GB tapes. Then it uses
data compression. You can dump about 5GB with data compression.
Speed is up to 600KB/sec (36 MB/min is peak performance).

Tapes are on the first look more expensive then DAT, but you can
re-use such a tape much more often, then a DAT tape. QIC tapes
are more reliable then DAT's. They hold data up to 10 years and
you can re-use a tape up to 100 times and maybe more ...

And ... the drive is very silent ! Not as silent as a DAT but
not much louder. Have a look at:
