I had similar symptoms first, but someone posted a fix here some weeks ago:

Change this to irq 5 (to do this, boot with -c).
Don't know why it works now, but it does :-) , at least on 2.1.*.
I don't know if anyone tried it already with 3.0.

A quick test is "cat something.au > /dev/audio."
