A lot of thanks go to Jason Godfrey, who told me to use a newer version of the booter for newer kernels -- with booter 1.9.6 it worked instantly --, and to David Bushong, who pointed me to the right kernels. (I didn't try GENERIC-9 yet, but ADBTEST.160 works fine.) And, of course, many many thanks to the NetBSD group for creating this fine system! -- Juergen Nickelsen
