I was hoping somebody would point out what I missed. In article <330A9DA6.6691@harris.com>, gcusick@harris.com wrote: >1) the generic kernel probably doesn't have the device nodes already >built in, so we will have to create those: > > cd /dev > ./MAKEDEV wd0s5 (use sd instead of wd for scsi) > ./MAKEDEV wd0s6 (use sd instead of wd for scsi) I haven't tried this yet, but I'm sure you are right. This was the crucial thing I missed. I think it would be helpful if the documentation could be amended to make this point *explicitly* (that you have to create the "extra" device nodes). The "MS-DOS user's Questions and Answers" section assumes you have already done this. Seems to me that the steps you set out could be inserted into the docs. It's *so* useful to have a step-by-step thing, especially when your mind is already swimming in an ocean of new information. The rest of the way (as you noted with reference to my first primary dos partition) I understood. It's those damn details, ya know. :-) Thanks again. Michael R Weholt http://www.panix.com/~mrw/
