May be : that one of the other audio inputs (microphone, line in) is set too : high and is what's generating the noise. I tried this but it didn't help. It isn't a "hiss" as with poor quality speakers but more of a regular short-"scratch". I think the CD drive is either flaky or configured incorrectly. Any ideas? Thanks Dave
