Our machine here that runs CAPShare has 32, though I think that it worked OK at 16. We were certainly surprised at the time just how many it needed! As an alternative, if you have FreeBSD 2.2, you may wish to run NetAtalk instead. This is extremely easy to install (the kernel parts are already in the FreeBSD 2.2 installation, so you just have to build a kernel, and compile the server programs). I was up and running in about 20 minutes the first time I tried installing it! NetAtalk performance seems better too.
