I installed my new 1Gb IDE drive as a master drive on the second IDE controller. Using the sysinstall utility program as suggested by the FBSD FAQ, I created 4 partions ( 400M as DOSFS, 250M, 350M and 40M as ufs ). Again using the sysinstall utility, I created 1 filesystem on partition number 2, 2 filesystems on partition 3 and the last partition is used as a swap filesystem. Checking the /dev directory, I saw the filesystems are created accordingly ( wd2s2e, wd2s3e, wd2s3f and wd2s4b ). However when i tried to mount any of these filesystem i got an error saying "Incorrect super block." Example : mount /dev/wd2s2e /mnt/src /dev/wd2s2e on /mnt/src: Incorrect super block. Could someone please tell me what else do i need to do to create the filesystems ? Belows are the results from the fdisk and disklabel command. Best regards, Hai Nguyen. PS : fdisk reports the correct disk geometry but disklabel has its own opinion. ******* output from the fdisk command fdisk /dev/wd2 **************** ******* Working on device /dev/wd2 ******* parameters extracted from in-core disklabel are: cylinders=2111 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl) Figures below won't work with BIOS for partitions not in cyl 1 parameters to be used for BIOS calculations are: cylinders# fdisk /dev/wd2 ******* Working on device /dev/wd2 ******* parameters extracted from in-core disklabel are: cylinders=2111 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl) Figures below won't work with BIOS for partitions not in cyl 1 parameters to be used for BIOS calculations are: cylinders=2111 heads=16 sectors/track=63 (1008 blks/cyl) Media sector size is 512 Warning: BIOS sector numbering starts with sector 1 Information from DOS bootblock is: The data for partition 0 is: sysid 6,(Primary 'big' DOS (> 32MB)) start 63, size 819441 (400 Meg), flag 0 beg: cyl 0/ sector 1/ head 1; end: cyl 812/ sector 63/ head 15 The data for partition 1 is: sysid 165,(FreeBSD/NetBSD/386BSD) start 819504, size 511056 (249 Meg), flag 80 beg: cyl 813/ sector 1/ head 0; end: cyl 1023/ sector 63/ head 15 The data for partition 2 is: sysid 165,(FreeBSD/NetBSD/386BSD) start 1330560, size 716688 (349 Meg), flag 80 beg: cyl 1023/ sector 63/ head 255; end: cyl 1023/ sector 63/ head 15 The data for partition 3 is: sysid 165,(FreeBSD/NetBSD/386BSD) start 2047248, size 80640 (39 Meg), flag 80 beg: cyl 1023/ sector 63/ head 255; end: cyl 1023/ sector 63/ head 15023/ sector 63/ head 15 ************* output from disklabel command ********************* # disklabel -r wd2 # /dev/rwd2c: type: ESDI disk: wd2s2 label: flags: bytes/sector: 512 sectors/track: 63 tracks/cylinder: 16 sectors/cylinder: 1008 cylinders: 507 sectors/unit: 511056 rpm: 3600 interleave: 1 trackskew: 0 cylinderskew: 0 headswitch: 0 # milliseconds track-to-track seek: 0 # milliseconds drivedata: 0 8 partitions: # size offset fstype [fsize bsize bps/cpg] c: 511056 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 506) #
