Timeout problems would look like your cabling, in the absence of posting any specific request sense data to the contrary. It should just plug in and go given that st doesn't try and do anything vastly arcane with setting the device up at mount/open time. Could you post/email what pops up on the console when you try and access this .. cheers, al (not speaking for HP..)
