I think that I also faced with the same problem, so I write this.

My machine in my labo powered by FreeBSD works completely
as long as PPP isn't used even if the remote machine is FreeBSD.
|I regularly use an old Amiga running NetBSD at home to send and receive
|email, via sendmail and POP3 repsectively, which works fine. I can
|telnet and examine the WWW site on our server from this machine,
|no problem. All this is done via the university's dialup service.
|However, when I attempt to do the same using my laptop, which runs
|FreeBSD, it fails. Telnetting gets to the point just before where
|one should enter one's password, then hangs. HTTP doesn't work at
|all; neither does POP. Nothing seems able to get through, although

Yes. ping and traceroute, nslookup works correctly.
But telnet and ftp, http doesn't work through PPP in my case.
I use iij-ppp on FreeBSD2.1.5R.

The asking for DNS server works because nslookup works in my situation.
