I've probed unknown cards with these and so throughly screwed them up that even the character-mode display is toasted. One machine was so bad that running probes on it would completely lock it up. I eventually got a reasonable clocks line for the config file by telnetting into it and running probeonly from a telnet screen, the machine locked up but emitted a clocks line which I copied down to a piece of paper. (and disabled the clock entries that made it upchuck, obviously)
