When extracting /usr pax told me to switch volumes.  BSDI support told me
to un-turbo the machine while installing -- which this motherboard doesn't do.
Just for grins I swapped out the 6x NEC CD-ROM drive with an old DEC,
presumably 1x drive, which worked.

Sometimes when loading /boot I get a trap type 9 -- protection fault, which
goes away only after I power cycle.
