There is no "mode switching". There is only typing commands. The sequence
"isometextgoeshere^[" is a command, inserting "sometextgoeshere" before the
cursor.

The biggest problem vi has is all the documentation that incorrectly describes
it as a moded editor because it looks that way to someone used to moded
editors. It's not.

Thinking of it as having "insert" and "command" modes actually makes it harder
to use.
