Someone should write up a command list for vi where every command-mode
command begins with <esc> instead of assuming that you are already
in command mode.  While this would make it just as ugly as an
emacs command list, including the <esc> to terminate any other
possible command would make it 'modeless' except for having to
use 'a' or 'i' to begin adding text, but surely you can remember
this one special case.  (And in return you get the ability to
use <repeat count> and <undo> with the add-text command which
can't work in completely modeless editors).
