Im presently running 3.0-SNAP with a few difficulties. First of which is
a STRANGE resolver problem. I have setup my machine to use bind resolving
with ypbind running (the ypserver doesn't maintain hostnames we use named
on another machine.). However several machines WILL NOT lookup at
all...however they ARE in the DNS properly and lookup fine from all
machines including my own in Win95. I edited the host.conf to search
/etc/hosts first...it works fine if I add the hosts. I disable /etc/hosts
lookups and most things lookup fine from the DNS. I then for kicks
enabled NIS lookup and they worked without a hitch. These names are NOT in
NIS, only in DNS. The same occurs wether I have ypbind up or not, tcpdump
output shows that it IS connecting to dns.domain, but the return whatever
it is, is misinterpreted as unknown by the box. Very strange.
Another question on NIS, what do I have to do to enable
login/password lookups through ypbind. I see absolutely no docs for this,
nor does the default '+' in the password file work (vipw fails, or if i
fill out all fields required with plus it STILL doesn't work althought it
can run mkdb)
