I am trying to setup a directory structure and INDEX file on a FreeBSD
2.1.6 filesystem so the sysinstall utility can be used to install packages
downloaded from the FreeBSD FTP sites. I can use the package_add utility to
install sucsessfully, but would like to understand the procedure to set up
sysinstall for future system setups. The directory structure on the FBSD
box is /FreeBSD/packages/all/samba The INDEX file is located in
/FreeBSD/packages, and the samba directory contains the file
"samba-1.9.15p8.tgz".

My INDEX file contents look like this

"samba-1.9.15p8|/FreeBSD/packages/all/samba/samba-1.9.15p8|/usr/local|A
LanManager(R)-compatible server suite for
Unix|/FreeBSD/packages/all/samba/pkg/DESCR||"

I also created a pkg directory below the samba directory and put these
files in it

COMMENT containing "A LanManager(R)-compatible server suite for Unix"

DESCR containing "The Samba suite is a set of programs which run under
the FreeBSD operating system. These programs deliver most of the important
functionality of a Microsoft Lan Manager server. That is, they support
remote access to FreeBSD filespace and FreeBSD printers from Lan Manager
compatible clients. In practical terms, this means that such clients can
connect to and use FreeBSD filespace as if it was a local disk drive, or
FreeBSD printers as if they were local printers. Some of the most popular
Lan Manager compatible clients include LanManager itself, Windows or
Workgroups, OS/2 and Windows NT."

PLIST containing "
bin/smbclient
bin/smbrun
bin/smbstatus
bin/smbpasswd
bin/nmblookup
bin/smbtar
bin/addtosmbpass
bin/testparm
bin/testprns
sbin/smbd
sbin/nmbd
man/man1/smbstatus.1.gz
man/man1/smbclient.1.gz
man/man1/smbrun.1.gz
man/man1/smbtar.1.gz
man/man1/testparm.1.gz
man/man1/testprns.1.gz
man/man5/smb.conf.5.gz
