The kernel has support for two IDE controllers, wdc0 and wdc1. Each controller can handle two devices, dubbed wd0 and wd1, for the primary controller, wd2 and wd3 for the secondary. I'm assuming you have the two hard disks on the primary controller, jumpered as Master and Slave, and the CD-ROM on the secondary. Now--if you have the CD drive jumpered as a Master alone on the controller, it might not be detected. If it has an option to be designated as Single (perhaps by removing all jumper blocks), that's your best bet. I ran into trouble recently by installing a Western Digital IDE hard drive (as a backup device) jumpered as Master when it was the only IDE device on the controller. FreeBSD curled a lip and turned up its nose until I designated it as Single. .\\ichelle --------------------- Michelle Brownsworth System Administrator IMS, Inc.
