If you wanna use the ATAPI CD, install 2.2 (still : vaporware, but soon to be released). If you are for stability and : bugfixes, chose 2.1.7 over 2.1.5. [snip] As "J" said, 2.2 will be better, but if you're "stuck" using 2.1.5, I'd offer the following: (1) When you _first_ booted the system BEFORE you partitioned or installed FreeBSD, did the "dmesg" announce that your CD-ROM was found? If so, reboot in this mode, and write down the information. (2) Have you re-compiled your kernel, or compiled a special kernel? If your CD-ROM was detected when booting up under #1, check the GENERIC file which contains the lines, like: controller wdc0 at isa? port "IO_WD1" bio irq 14 vector wdintr disk wd0 at wdc0 drive 0 disk wd1 at wdc0 drive 1 options ATAPI #Enable ATAPI support for IDE bus device wcd0 #IDE CD-ROM Use the lines shown above! -- Nathan V.
