I've read the man pages about getty and the like, I know what the FAQ says, and I have played with all the settings in /etc/ttys and some of /etc/gettytab, but after tens of reboots the terminal does not work. There is no login prompt on the teminals' screen, and the console put out numerous messages about getty process spawning too fast... And, the cable and/or the terminal is NOT the problem. No way of cableing, no kind of handshake does the job. There should at least be a login prompt, if only TxD/RxD and GND are (cross-)connected, with all handshaking options disabled, but no success. So, where have I to look for the correct settings? The devices /dev/tty00 and /dev/tty01 do exist, for both the serial lines. Do I need to compile the kernel with "options UCONSOLE" defined ? Until now I thought that were an option for X11 only. -cr -- Christoph Rimek, Kiel, Germany (+49 431 57601) chrimek@toppoint.de
