The version in /usr/bin is (AFAIK) version 3, but there's a port of version 6. I've had no problems with the /usr/bin version, and only had problems figuring out how to tell version 6 where rdistd was on the remote host. Can you rcp things between the two machines ? Perhaps this is just an RPC problem ?
