The first think the boot floppy after loading the kernel into text and uncompressing was to put the screen into a colorized graphic mode full of bars. There was no chance to reach the menu based configuration of the kernel drivers except you know the menus that good that you can enter the parameters blindly. Before that the 2.1.6 RELEASE runs without problems. The graphic card was a hercules stingray the computer a rather cheap model from atelco dx486/pci I think and an ugly mouse based ami-bios, ne2000 card, no scsi components, no cd-rom but a cheap soundcard he added last week. After that we installed the computer with the old 2.1.6 floppy but with new 2.2 release. Everythink worked fine until during the first boot wich the same problem appeared. Now the only think what I can do is to build and install a customized kernel. But that requirers interaction on a console, so I think I have the following possibilities, changing hardware-components or booting over the serial interface with a terminal. Has somebody of you an idea of what could be get broken compared to to the older 2.1.6 release? Ciao, David -- finger: ptdw@theke.heim2.tu-clausthal.de irc: ptdw on #ttlk
