I did a "make world," recompiled my kernel, did another "make world" and
kernel build (just for good measure) then finally recompiled my ports.

Works like charm now!

It is interesting to note that compiling a 2.2-RELEASE kernel while running
a 2.1-STABLE kernel resulted in cryptic "syntax" errors when I did the
"make install." Not sure why but the second kernel build installed fine.

Thanks,
