I also took the time to read the 386bsd FAQ (on agate). The FAQ said that to fix the 'tip' 'all ports busy' message one just has to recompile tip. I tried this, but I couldn't get it to work. Next question, when I log in as a normal user (not root) then su (to become root), my machine just hangs with no promt or anything and I am forced to reboot.
