That's bizarre, are you sure about this?  I've never ever seen any
symptoms remotely like this.

Also, if you're going to test FreeBSD, at least use a more recent
version - 2.1.5 is ancient by modern OS standards. :)
I would recommend picking up 2.2.1 from ftp.freebsd.org and trying
again.

Hmmm.  I've seen MC running just fine on a 2.1.7 machine, I can't say
I've seen it tested in any earlier releases though.

APM was fairly broken in 2.1.5 - you really should jump to the 2.2
branch.

fvwm1, fvwm2 and fvwm95 are all included with FreeBSD 2.2.1 :-)
