It will be superior to 2.1.7.X for some people, and other's will have problems with it. (Not because it is terminally broken, but because of the complexities of the new code.) The current 2.2.X release is pretty good, but of course, this is the first release of this flavor. There are already significant numbers of ISPs and others using the 2.2.X flavor under impressive loads, but YMMV. Not speaking for -core, but my estimation is that 2.1.X is now purely in current engineering mode. 2.2.X is where the future is for the next 6mos-1yr, with super-stability coming in about 3mos, but it is pretty-good(generally okay) now. The 3.X series will be coming around (after) the end of summer with the stability of 2.2.X today. Around that time, most heavy loaded applications will have been migrated to the 2.2.X series. In the parts of the kernel that I work on (mess with :-)), 2.2.X is light-years beyond 2.1.X. 3.X will be much more feature laden, minimally with SMP and Lite/2 merge with VFS layering working. My private goal, but limited by resources is to have a working and usable LFS (I don't feel that I "own" the LFS project, and would be happy to help someone do it -- but the VFS layering rework needs to come first.) So much for my blathering :-). John
