Sure (I was really happy in '88 when 2400s became affordable and 1200s became cheap enough for me to buy one :-), but he's not completely wrong. Running X11 over a modem link is not really funny. On the other hand there aren't any real admin tasks for which you have to use X11. On the gripping hand with UNIX you can do even that if you really have to.
