Well, the problems on a gateway are fixed. The problem with the
hard drive controller not being initialized correctly was due to a
BIOS setup. In a Gateway there is an internal 8k cache in the CPU.
If this is enabled, the system does not recognize the IDE controller,
however, if this is disabled the system works perfect, including
all network operations. Unfortunately disabling the 8k cache decreases
the machines processing power dramatically!!
Now the only problem is getting X to run. The VGA is a 8514/A compatable
card. I ftp'd the Xfree86 server for 8514/a cards, but it doesn't seem
to work. does anyone use this driver?? (Version 0.1 of the driver)
