About the only thing, IMO, that is rock solid is the Archive (now
Seagate) VP-150 (i.e 2150L and VP-402).  The best you can get though is
250 Mb with DC6250 tapes.  The problem is that the QIC-02 drives are
only available in the used and refurb market.

The bit downside is that the VP-402 takes a precious IRQ and DMA channel
from the 8-bit portion of the ISA bus.  Many of us don't have those
hardware resources to spare so we very readily opt for SCSI.  With up to
15 (wide) devices to hang off of one IRQ and DMA channel, you can't go
wrong.
