I think I became computer literate several years after running Unix. I just decided that I wanted to know more about how things run. I'm completely clueless on how Windows works and such. But I've managed to get Unix to do all the daily things that I need to do, like generate business letters, generate invoices, manage a small business accounting system with it, etc. I find that there's little that Unix and its family of utilities can't do. I'm sure Windows can do the same. But in terms of effieciency, availability, and ease of use, you really can't beat Unix. My CS friend who was responsible for getting me hooked onto Unix managed to get his fiance who's a veterinary medicine grad student Mac user using Digital Unix for email and LaTeX-ing of papers. She's definitely sworn off Microsoft Office for sure =) I believe that the only daunting task of picking up Unix is that it's tutorials and help mechanisms aren't great. It's quite functional for those who know how to use the system. With adequate guidance anyone can be a comfortable user of Unix. However, power and flexibility definitely goes better with your favorite flavor of Unix. Giao
