The trailing dot caused the problems. ctlinnd rmgroup alt.binaries.pictures.erotica. fixed the problem on the servers that had this group. Similar problem with 'alt.sex.'. Is this a bug in inn? The groups in the active file were there from pre- 1.5.1 inn.
