I've installed NetBSD on an Apollo at home, and know what it can be like, but I'm at a loss trying to boot the NetBSD kernel on my Sparc1+. Since the Sparc1+ has both an Ethernet connection and floppy drive, I've tried booting from the Apollo running NetBSD and a PC running Linux. Here's what I do... I setup the bootptab file on the Apollo with the directory, boot file and hardware address of the Sparc1+. I make en entry in /etc/ethers and run rarpd. I boot the Sparc1+ and in the prom monitor I type 'b le()netbsd'. When rarpd is in debugging mode, it shows that it received an rarp packet, but nothing else happens and the boot process eventually times out. I've also tried a similiar thing from my PC running Linux, which I successfully installed the Apollo version of NetBSD from about a month ago. I've even tried to write the netbsd kernel to a floppy disk but when I boot 'b fd()' it says the file loaded has a bad magic number and isn't executable. The documentation I've read, is quite vague. I guess what I need is some step by step advice and what getting this to happen. Thanks. Jason Mader // jasonq@seas.gwu.edu
