Having trouble with the 'talk' command with FreeBSD 2.2.1:

1) I can initiate a talk from another host to usernames on the FreeBSD box;

2) I >can't< initiate a talk >from< my box to another; I get the single message
[Target machine does not recognize us]

3) I >can't< initiate a talk from one username on my machine to another --
that is, locally;
When attempting to use the 'talk' command on FreeBSD 2.2.1 with another
user logged into the same machine -- sample output:

> talk (username)
(the terminal opens the proper 'windows')
[No connection yet]
[Checking for invitation on caller's machine]
[Checking for invitation on caller's machine]
[Checking for invitation on caller's machine]
[Checking for invitation on caller's machine]
(in other words instead of initiating a connection, it attempts to repond
to one; eventually the top frame fills with this mesaage and stops; at this
point I simply ^C to quit...)
[Connection closing. Exiting]

I'm hesitant to think it's an IP# or DN config problem since all other
Internet services work
perfectly (including 'write', which uses the same daemon, correct?). What
am I overlooking?
