I put together a 3.0 machine with INN 1.5.1 for testing, and it accepts articles significantly more slowely than a similar 2.1 machine with 1.4unoff4. You don't specify what's slow for you, but I'll guess that it might be reading, in which case you should take a look at LIKE_PULLERS.
