The mono server will work in "generic" mode.

Because the SS24 uses a programmable clock synth, these values will not always
be the same.  They will be set to whatever the last DOS graphics program
set them too (but they get reset on a cold boot).  Some people use
the SS24 with XFree86 by first booting DOS and running a graphics program
to set the clock, then booting Unix.

To find out why the server is failing, take a look at xdm's error file
/usr/X386/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-errors.  In this case it's probably
because of mode/clock mismatches.  You should initially leave out the
Clocks line in Xconfig, and look at the error log to see what clocks
the server detects.
