It is nice indeed, but in general the FreeBSD console is not as usable as the Linux one. When I still used Linux I did 50% on the console, not in X11: Linux consoles can display at high resolution and high refresh rates, with different fonts, e.g. 100x40 or 120x50 at 80 Hz (whatever your videoboard supports). They borrowed code from XFree and put this into the SVGATextmode package.
