Unlike the US, | Germany doesn't have many usable other options for digital connections Er, what? Sorry, nonsense. Alternatives may be less price-efficient, but they sure are available, since years. | the Deutsche Telekom apparently realized that the local infrastructure | (the wiring to the customers) is the most expensive part, *Recently*? Kidding, eh? This was a well-known fact since before I started university, which is inded *some* years ago. | That's what i assume why they have been pushing this technology Jörg, no, really. I've seen more competent comments from you. The reason for pushing ISDN is the tremendously better cost-effectiveness of digital line technology. It scales better, costs less, and is more flexible. | Note that also, the acceptance of ISDN in the US is way lower since | it's not really pushed is *I*SDN there. Again, no. The US never had a big history with X.25; Europe had. The US were striving towards Frame Relay as late and faster substitute for that, while at the same time Europe more got on the ISDN track. There really was no need to push ISDN in the US as there are alternate cheap technologies available. Also consider the influence of the size of the service area. In the US, the local loop plays less of a role than in Europe. Tarriffs, on the other hand, still are much lower in the US, influence by political decisions. There are a lot of factors. It's simply that the US and Europe followed different waves of deployment of digital services. These never synchronized, as there was no need to synchronize. Suggest to look into comp.dcom.isdn. Or the appropriate German-language group hierarchy. :-) Helge
