|Hello Sun hardware gurus!
|
|Recently I helped to clean out the cellars of a computer club here
|in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. I got something to take home as thanks
|for my efforts, as long as I promised never to bring it back :)
|I now have a 3/280S computer (a big cabinet that has to be mounted in
|a rack), a lot of cables, and a Fujitsu M2382 SMD hard disk.
|I was told this combination probably did not belong to each other,
|but it might work.
|
|I have searched on the net for information about the M2382, but all I
|found was that some firm will pay $450 for it, that it has a size
|of 1 GB, and I found a disktab entry for it. I could not find more info.
|I have also searched for old Sun hardware info, but the only hardware
|info file I could find had no information on SMD drives, only SCSI.
|
|The Sun has two disk controllers. One has a tag with 501124909623 on it,
|and the other has 501116607914 on the tag. I have cables for both
|controllers. I want to run NetBSD on this system. To which controller
|can I attach the drive? Will a drive of this size work on the 3/280?
|What is the difference between these controllers? Any snags while
|installing NetBSD?
|
|I hope someone can help me to get this system going. It would be a
|worthy addition to my little computer museum, which already has a
|Sparcstation I and a MicroVAX II happily running NetBSD. I will worry
|about the electricity bill later :)

	501-1249 is a hi-speed SMD controller; it's what you
want to use for the drive. SunOS will install & boot
from the drive, but I don't know what support there
is in NetBSD, so I'm crossposting to there...
