now I'm really confused !!!
i recompiled the kernel with
a
pseudo-device ppp 4
added
that added the pppd support and got rid of lots of uneeded hardware
probes ... it boots really nice now :-)

so now when i do
ps ax
i get
  189 ?? Is 0:00.01 pppd /dev/ttyd0
  191 ?? Is 0:00.01 pppd /dev/ttyd1
  197 ?? I 0:00.04 /usr/libexec/getty std.57600 ttyd0
  198 ?? I 0:00.04 /usr/libexec/getty std.57600 ttyd1
is that right ??

I am using 2 x 33.6 f/d modems internal on
com1+2
I have set up my modems to auto answer ...
I get to the terminal ok's
but what /how do I get the ppp login working ?
when I type in ppp
I get the ppp > prompt

how do I setup my ppp so that it locks the terminal and stops that ppp
prompt ???

are there any modem settings i need to ensure must be on ?

thanks in advance
phil
