Ok, after a bit of searching around, I'm now trying NetAtalk, an
application for Unix which makes the Unix box think that it is an
AppleTalk server. Just as soon as I can get by 1.2.x Linux upgraded to
1.3 or greater that is.

You could also have a look at Vicom's Internet Gateway, which makes your
Mac into a router. It works pretty well, and I think it's generally a
good thing.
