when i tried /var/tmp in the option choice that did not work well either,
in the end i redid everything (the 18th install) selected /usr/tmp on
the option screen and it worked. next to compile a kernel to get pppd
working. for whatever reason there was no predictability to whether or
not /stand/sysinstall would work consistently. to date i have still been
unable to add a few pkg.
