HELP!

I have a FreeBSD 2.1.5 box that I can not log into, even from console.

I have rebooted into single user mode and found that the owner of inetd may
have been changed, but since I have nothing to compare it to, I have no
idea if it has or not. What I need to know is the owner and file
permissions of inetd daemon and all of it's support files.

The problem manifests itself by saying "login incorrect" whenever I attempt
to login, regardless it is local or remote. I have rebuilt the password
files and databases, verified that portmapper is running, and the weirdest
thing is sendmail, pop, and ftp work just fine. But I can not log into the
machine unless I go single user mode at the console.

Any help would be appreciated as this machine is part of an ISP that I
administer.

Thanks,
