When I installed multimedia I had to add devices for SB16 into kernel.
How to do it is described on this address

Then to use xmixer and xmmix I had to do (as root): 
#> cd /dev
#> ./MAKEDEV mixer

Support form my Mitsumi FD001D was in kernel before, I only had to
change IO address and IRQ (on boot time in visual config).

Then everything was OK and I was able to play CD through my SB16 and use
xcdplay, workman, xmcd, xcd, xmixer, xmmix,...
