Thanks for the reply,

 There's been several instances of things that won't compile on this 
system(like sendmail 8.8.5), that others have been able to compile.

I solved my immediate need by using Solaris 2.5.1

Eventually I'll get around to setting up a test machine for FreeBSD 2.2.1, and 
we'll see how that goes...
