Hi,
Having some problems with forwarding on my gateway. The machine has a
3COM 3c509 (inside) and 3c590 (outside) interface cards. From an
internal network machine, I can ping no farther than the outside
interface card. A traceroute from an inside machine to the outside
gateway card fails to return a route. A ping to the ISDN router
(161.225) shows activity but does not return to the inside network
machine. A netstat -rn at the gateway returns:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif
Expire
default 205.241.161.225 UGSc 2 0 ep0
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 0 1 lo0
172.16.1/24 link#1 UC 0 0
172.16.1.1 0:20:af:d6:a1:b UHLW 0 1 lo0
172.16.1.3 8:0:9:6d:ee:f0 UHLW 2 117 vx0

205.241.161 link#2 UC 0 0
205.241.161.225 0:c0:7b:5b:e9:d4 UHLW 3 0 ep0
1160
205.241.161.228 0:20:af:a0:76:c UHLW 0 1 lo0
This configuration was generated with no static routes and I have made
no changes to the routing table directly.
A netstat -rn at an inside network machine (HP-UX 9.04) returns:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Interface
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 0 118 lo0
default 172.16.1.1 UG 0 6857 lan0
172.16.1 172.16.1.3 U 12 593977 lan0
Traceroutes from the gateway are successful to any valid ip addresses,
inside or outside the gateway.
The gateway was configured using the netstart/sysconfig files ( options
"-g" only). I have rebuilt the kernel with the GATEWAY option set and
the results have been the same. The routing tables appear to be correct
(at least to me, but since it doesn't work what does that mean). Does
anyone have any ideas as to why I get no forwarding from outside to
inside on an internal network to outside request?
TIA
MW
